What is Castor Oil and what is it used for?

Castor oil is a natural extract from castor seeds (Ricinus communis). It contains triglycerides, which under the influence of lipase break down with the formation of glycerol and ricinolic acid.

Ricinolic acid irritates the receptors of the intestinal mucosa, and therefore causes a reflex increase in the peristalsis of the small intestine. In addition, it inhibits the absorption of water from the intestine, hydrates the faecal masses, increases their volume and accelerates the stool. The laxative effect usually develops after

5-6 hours after administration of the preparation. Reflex contraction of the uterine muscles is possible.

It is used externally as a cosmetic product that nourishes, hydrates and gives elasticity to the skin, smoothes wrinkles. In the form of masks, it is used to strengthen hair and eyelashes.

Doses and method of administration

Internal. In adults - 15-30 g (1-2 tablespoons) once a day, usually before bedtime or 2-6 hours before the diagnostic procedure, in children - 1.0 g for each year of life /day.

 To nourish and hydrate the skin, it is applied to the face, massaging with light movements. It is left

10-15 minutes, then the excess oil is removed with a paper napkin. The hair masks are applied and left for 10-15 min, then washed with shampoo.

Side effects

Abdominal pain, nausea, congestion of the pelvic organs.

With individual hypersensitivity to castor oil, allergic reactions are possible: skin rashes, hives.

Contraindications

Individual hypersensitivity to castor oil.

As a laxative, the product is contraindicated for the elderly, children under 1 year, during pregnancy.

The preparation is not administered simultaneously with the fern extract.

Warnings and special precautions for use

The product does not influence the speed of reactions in people who drive vehicles or operate machines, which require increased attention.

Each 40 g or 50 g of oil in bottles made of plastic or glass.

Storage: store away from moisture and light, at a temperature of 15 - 25 ºC. Keep out of the reach and sight of children!
